As a young girl listening to the jazz hour from my hometown NPR station I would always here the host speak about the infamous “Newport Jazz Festival”.
I wasn’t sure where Newport was located or how far away it was but I knew one day I would attend this festival and relive those radio session playbacks in which Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck and all the other greats performed.

As I often say, I’m not sure how long my adventure here will be on the East Coast so I decided that I would treat myself this year to the festival.

Only a four-hour drive from the city, I arrived in beautiful Newport, the quintessential New England town with the harbor, light house, ships, mansions, and seafood. A great escape from the humid city I was hypnotized by the sounds of Cassandra Wilson, Lisa Fischer, and the Kenny Garrett Quintet.
I will be back again when I’m older and established to stay a full week in Newport with my husband so we can experience the full experience. Until then this trip was one of my highlights of this amazing summer. Summer 2015.
